Llanfoist Open Gardens Day

The Open Gardens event started in 2003 to raise funds towards building the new village hall in Llanfoist and also in support of the National Garden Scheme national charities. It has become so popular an event with villagers and visitors alike that, although we opened our magnificent hall in 2006 the event continues and will take place on June 14th for the 7th time. This year we are applying some of the funds raised to the implementation of a comprehensive Village Design Study, commissioned by our local Llanfoist Villagers’ Association registered charity, a project that we anticipate will lead to improvements in the village environment. We hope that a larger proportion of this year’s income will be donated to the NGS charities and other local organisations.

Llanfoist is a very diverse village, steeped in history, but incorporating much that is modern and forever changing. Set between the Sugarloaf and Blorenge mountains to the southwest of Abergavenny we are in a beautiful location. Sadly we are still besieged by never ending developments on all sides, Coopers Site just started, Gipsey Lane Estate on hold because of the economic situation, Westgate Yard threatened, to name but a few. However, many of us remain steadfast in our desire to keep the “village” atmosphere alive and the Open Gardens event is more crucial than ever for that.

Many thanks to all of you who came to the 6th annual open gardens day in Llanfoist last year and we look forward to seeing you again on Sunday June 13th 2010.
